Uploading your website

1 min read • Updated 2 weeks ago • Files, FTP & SSH

The fastest ways to get your website files onto Twerple hosting, and how to check it worked.

There are three ways to upload a website. For more than a handful of files, the ZIP method is by far the quickest.

  1. On your computer, put all your website files into one ZIP file.
  2. In HostPanel, go to Files → File Manager and open your domain's public_html folder.
  3. Upload the ZIP file.
  4. Select it and extract it.
  5. Check that your index.html or index.php is directly inside public_html, not inside a subfolder. If the archive created a folder, open it, select everything, and move it up into public_html.
  6. Delete the ZIP file.

Method 2: an FTP or SFTP program

Programs such as FileZilla, Cyberduck and WinSCP are best for large websites and regular updates. See Creating an FTP account and connecting with FileZilla or Connecting with SSH or SFTP.

Method 3: drag and drop

For a few files, drag them straight onto the File Manager window.

Websites with a database

If your website uses a database, such as WordPress, Joomla or a custom PHP application:

  1. Create a database.
  2. Import your database file.
  3. Update your website's configuration file with the new database connection details.

Checking it worked

If your domain already points to Twerple, open it in your browser. If not, use the preview link.
