Create FTP logins, limit them to one folder, and the settings to use in FileZilla.
FTP lets you transfer files with a program such as FileZilla. You can create extra FTP accounts, for example for a web designer, and limit each one to a single folder.
Creating an FTP account
- Sign in to HostPanel and go to Files → FTP Accounts.
- Create a new account and enter a Username and a strong Password.
- Set a Quota, or
0for no limit beyond your plan's disk space. - Choose what the account can reach: your whole home folder, one domain's folder, or just a domain's
public_html. - Save.
You can also create FTP accounts on the FTP tab of your hosting in the client area. The account only sees the folder you chose, which appears as / when connected.
Connecting with FileZilla
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Host | your domain (for example example.com) or your server's IP address |
| Port | 21 |
| Protocol | FTP |
| Encryption | Only use plain FTP |
| Logon type | Normal |
| User / Password | the FTP account's user name and password |
Use the domain as host only if it already points to Twerple; otherwise use the IP address shown in the Quick Stats card on your HostPanel dashboard.
Use SFTP when you can
Plain FTP sends your password unencrypted. If your plan includes SSH access, connect with SFTP instead, which encrypts everything. See Connecting with SSH or SFTP.
Managing FTP accounts
- Use the password action to change a password and edit to change the quota.
- Suspend blocks an account straight away without deleting it, which is useful when a designer's work is finished.
- An account that goes over its quota is suspended automatically. Free some space or raise the quota, then unsuspend it.
- Delete accounts you no longer use.
