Send visitors from an old address to a new one with 301 or 302 redirects, including www and HTTPS.
A redirect sends visitors, and search engines, from one address to another. Use it when you move a page, rename a section or change domain.
Creating a redirect
- Sign in to HostPanel and go to Domains → Redirects.
- Select the domain on the left and click Add Redirect.
- In Source Path, enter the old path on this domain, for example
/old-page. Use/to redirect the whole domain. - In Destination URL, enter the full new address, for example
https://example.com/new-page. - Choose the Redirect Type (see below).
- Leave Match Type on exact unless you need to match many addresses at once with a wildcard or regular expression.
- Add a Description so you remember why the redirect exists, and keep Enable immediately ticked.
- Save.
301 or 302?
| Type | Use it when |
|---|---|
| 301 | The move is permanent. Search engines transfer the old page's ranking to the new one. |
| 302 | The move is temporary, for example during a campaign or while a page is being rebuilt. |
| 307 / 308 | The same as 302 and 301, but forms are sent on unchanged. Only needed for special cases. |
Browsers remember 301 redirects for a long time. If you make a mistake, visitors may keep being redirected even after you delete the rule, so test with a 302 first if you are unsure.
Sending everyone to HTTPS
You do not need a redirect for this. Turn on Force HTTPS instead. See Forcing HTTPS and turning on HSTS.
Managing redirects
Use the toggle to switch a redirect off without deleting it, edit to change it, and delete to remove it.
