Every domain on Twerple hosting gets a free Let's Encrypt certificate. Here is how to issue and renew it.
Every domain hosted with Twerple can have a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt. It puts the padlock in your visitors' browsers, encrypts everything they send you, and renews itself automatically.
Certificates are usually issued for you when a domain is created. If your domain was not pointing to Twerple at that moment, the certificate could not be issued yet; follow the steps below once it is.
Issuing a certificate
- Make sure the domain points to your Twerple hosting. See Pointing your domain to Twerple.
- Sign in to HostPanel and go to Domains → SSL/TLS.
- Select the domain on the left.
- In the SSL Auto-Issue card, click Run auto-issue.
- HostPanel first checks whether the domain points to the server and shows what it is going to do. Review it and confirm.
- Keep the window open until it reports that the certificate is installed. This usually takes under a minute.
Automatic renewal
Let's Encrypt certificates are valid for 90 days. Make sure Auto-Renew is ticked in the HTTPS settings; HostPanel then renews the certificate in its last 30 days, with no downtime. To renew by hand, click Renew in the Certificate Actions card.
Using Cloudflare?
If your domain is proxied through Cloudflare (the orange cloud), HostPanel detects it and can make the DNS changes needed to issue the certificate. Leave the auto-manage Cloudflare switch on when asked.
Covering every subdomain
Subdomains you create in HostPanel are usually covered automatically. If you need one certificate for every possible subdomain, including ones you have not created yet, you need a wildcard certificate; see Installing a paid SSL certificate or contact us.
