See which folders and files take up your space, and the usual things to clean up.
When your account is close to its disk limit, this is how to find out why.
Using Disk Usage
- Sign in to HostPanel and go to Files → Disk Usage.
- The cards at the top show your total space, used space and what is left.
- The folder table shows which domain or folder is using the most.
- The largest-files table lists every file over 10 MB, with its location and date.
The page is read-only. Note the paths, then delete or download the files in the File Manager. The figures update about every ten minutes.
The usual suspects
- Old backup archives created by website plugins and left in your folders.
- Cache folders, for example
wp-content/cache. Clear the cache in your plugin rather than deleting files by hand. - Log files such as
error_logordebug.logthat have grown very large. - Email: mailboxes count towards your disk space. Check their sizes in Email → Email Accounts.
- Unused websites, test installs and old copies of your site.
Running out of files rather than space
If Disk Usage shows an inode card, it counts your files and folders. Many small files, such as cache files or years of email, can reach the inode limit while disk space still looks fine. Clearing caches and old email fixes it.
