Creating your own backup

1 min read • Updated 2 weeks ago • Backups & Restores

Make an on-demand backup of your websites, databases and email, with optional encryption.

Besides our daily backups, you can create a backup yourself at any time, for example before a big change.

Creating a backup

  1. Sign in to HostPanel and go to Backup → Create Backup.
  2. Enter a Backup name, such as "before redesign".
  3. Choose Full, which copies everything. (Incremental, if offered, only copies what has changed since the last full backup with the same name, which is quicker.)
  4. Under Domains, select the websites to include.
  5. Choose the encryption:
    • panel key: encrypted, and can be restored on your Twerple account;
    • password: encrypted with a password you choose, so it can be restored elsewhere. Keep the password safe; without it, the backup cannot be opened.
  6. Start the backup. It runs in the background and shows its progress, so you can keep working.

You can also create backups from the Backups tab of your hosting in the client area.

What is included

For each domain: its files, its databases, its email accounts and messages, and its settings such as subdomains, cron jobs, SSL certificates and DNS records. Log files are left out.

Disk space

Backups you create are stored in your account and count towards your disk space. The page warns you if space is running low. Download the backups you want to keep and delete them from the server afterwards.
