Set up shop.example.com or blog.example.com as a separate website with its own folder and SSL.
A subdomain is an address in front of your domain, such as shop.example.com or blog.example.com. It can be a separate website with its own files, or it can send visitors somewhere else.
Creating it
- Sign in to HostPanel and go to Domains → Subdomains.
- Select your domain on the left and click Create Subdomain.
- In Name, enter only the first part, for example
shop. The domain is added for you. - Leave Document Root as suggested unless you want the subdomain to use a different folder. The full path is shown as you type.
- Leave PHP Version on Inherit from domain, or choose a different version for this subdomain.
- Keep SSL / HTTPS switched on.
- If the subdomain should simply send visitors to another address, enter it in Redirect URL.
- Save.
You can also add subdomains from the Domains tab of your hosting in the client area.
DNS for the subdomain
If your domain uses Twerple's nameservers, check Domains → DNS Zones for a record with the subdomain's name; add an A record pointing to your server's IP address if there is none. If your DNS is managed elsewhere, add that A record at your DNS provider.
SSL for subdomains
The SSL column shows the certificate status:
- Inherited (parent): the subdomain is covered by your domain's certificate. Nothing to do.
- Let's Encrypt: the subdomain has its own free certificate, which renews automatically.
- Self-Signed: a free certificate could not be issued yet, usually because the DNS is not pointing to us. Fix the DNS, then click the retry button.
- HTTP: SSL is switched off for this subdomain.
Deleting a subdomain also deletes its files. Download anything you want to keep first.
