Putting your website into maintenance mode

Show visitors a "back soon" page while you work on your site, and customize it.

Maintenance mode shows visitors a "back soon" page while you update or rebuild your website.

Turning it on and off

  1. Sign in to HostPanel and go to Domains → Domain List.
  2. Click your domain. On the General tab, find the Maintenance Mode card.
  3. Turn off the switch labelled Site is live. Visitors immediately see the maintenance page.
  4. When you have finished, turn the switch back on.

While maintenance mode is on, visitors and search engines receive a "503 Service Unavailable" status, which tells search engines the outage is temporary, so your rankings are not affected by a short break.

Customizing the page

The page shown is the file /home/USERNAME/example.com/errors/503.html. Edit it in the File Manager to add your logo, a message and a way to contact you.

Using WordPress? Its own maintenance plugins let you keep working on the site while signed in, which HostPanel's maintenance mode does not.
