Move a domain from another registrar to Twerple: what you need, the steps and how long it takes.
Before you start
A domain can be transferred when:
- it has been registered for at least 60 days (and was not transferred in the last 60 days);
- it is unlocked at your current registrar;
- you have its EPP / Auth code from your current registrar;
- the admin contact email address on the domain works, because approval emails may go there.
Step by step
- At your current registrar, unlock the domain and ask for the EPP / Auth code.
- In your client area, go to the Transfer Domain page. You can also reach it from the dashboard: click Transfer under Register or Transfer Domain.
- Enter the domain name and the EPP code, then click Proceed with Transfer.
- Check out and pay the transfer invoice.
- Approve the transfer if your current registrar emails you about it.
How long it takes
Most transfers finish within 5 to 7 days. Your current registrar can approve it sooner, and some do when you ask. For most extensions, a transfer also adds one year to the registration, so you do not lose the time you have already paid for.
Keeping your website online
A transfer does not change your nameservers, so your website and email keep working throughout. Change the DNS or nameservers separately, after the transfer has finished, if you want to.
Stuck? Open a ticket with the domain name and we will look into it with you.
